The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is the world's largest dance examinations board. Graded Examinations may be taken in  Modern Theatre and Tap alongside medal examinations in Jazz dance. Grades are accredited by Ofqual to match National Curriculum key stages.

Examinations are suitable for everyone from young children starting out in dance classes to students aspiring to become professional dancers. The syllabus has been designed for both male and female candidates at all levels

Students at Warlingham are entered for examinations if appropriate once the teacher feels they are  most comfortable with the skills learnt from that particular grade. On average, students can expect to study any one grade for around 18 months, depending on age and ability.

Pre-School Dance

We offer specially structured classes focused on pre school children aged 2 1/2 upwards. Creative movement is an excellent way for students to develop their physical skills, improve co-ordination and promote creativity, not to mention boosting social skills and confidence. Our magical lessons nurture imagination and provide an introduction to the basics of ballet.

Ballet:

Ballet is the foundation for all styles of dance and the most important core discipline for students. The musical awareness, strength and grace required to be a good dancer are all developed through the study of ballet.

Classes are an excellent way to encourage good posture and develop technique and co-ordination.

Modern:

Modern is an energetic and technical style of jazz dance, often seen on the stages of musical productions.

This theatrical style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which require both strength and flexibility. Classes are taught to students aged from 4 1/2 upwards.

Tap:

A fun, exciting and challenging style of dance, Tap is the ultimate training for any dancer wishing to master the skill of rhythm.

Our fabulous American style Tap classes are held for students aged 6 to adult, across the spectrum from beginner to advanced. Scheduled classes are held alongside regular Masterclass workshops with experienced guest teachers and professional dancers.

Musical Theatre:

Students will love the experience of learning, rehearsing and performing at Warlingham Dance Studio. Routines from stage and screen are taught under the expert guidance of our professional singing, dance and drama coaches.

Working with a dedicated and enthusiastic team of qualified teachers they will study routines from Hollywood, Broadway and London’s West End alongside contemporary numbers from shows such as “Glee”. Students will study drama exercises, choreographed dance routines and professional vocal techniques. Our 90 minute classes are split by age group and are suitable for students of 7 upwards.

Adult Classes:

Our adult dance classes are a fantastic way to keep fit, make friends and learn new skills, all within a friendly, relaxed environment. Dust off your tap shoes and join in our adult sessions - all ages and abilities are welcome and pre-registration is not required.
